Our social workers recently spoke to the joint secretary of one of the largest government certified shelter homes in Kolkata and told her about our work with victims and survivors of sex trafficking across India. The joint secretary gave our team permission to conduct our restoration program with the girls in the home. In the past, this home only allowed us to provide counseling sessions. Now we can teach the girls life skills and host vocational training!
This shelter home houses approximately 250 survivors - survivors of forced prostitution and sexual abuse, victims of domestic abuse and other young girls who need shelter and care.
On Thursday, February 18th, social workers will lead the first session. After a fun icebreaker, they plan to give an overview of life skills and share how girls can use different tools to help manage their lives better. We are so grateful for this opportunity!
