A social worker, Rupeli, led a life-skills session on marriage for survivors in a shelter home in Nagpur. Rupeli emphasized the importance of premarital counseling and outlined ways to pursue a happy marriage. Rupeli talked about how to deal with conflict, how to pay attention to each other's feelings, the importance of each spouse taking initiative, and how to prepare oneself for marriage.

Some of the younger survivors seemed shy and just smiled, but the older survivors offered their own insights, including specific ways a wife can offer support and care in her marriage. Survivors wrote their ideas on colorful sticky notes. Due to the nature of arranged marriages and Indian culture, these topics are not always openly discussed, but this session gave these survivors an opportunity to think more deeply about marriage.
