16-year-old Lata was rescued in March 2023 from Nagpur's red light area, Ganga Jamuna. She was returned to her parents, who re-trafficked her, and our team rescued her again in August 2023 from a private brothel in Rajasthan.
Earlier this year, Lata testified in a special court and shared that her mother sold her for $17,900. Members of our rescue team also testified before the judge.
We are beyond thrilled to learn that the brothel keeper was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, and Lata was awarded 500,000 rupees (~$5956) compensation!
Our team continues to oppose bails, advocate for survivors, and support each girl as she boldly testifies in court; together, we will fight for justice for the crimes these young girls have endured.
