Social workers Seema and Catherine facilitated a painting workshop for 23 girls in a shelter home in Pune. While the girls were painting diyas (small clay lamps), Seema asked them how they felt. Some girls said that they felt happy and excited. Others reflected on their childhood and shared about other times they painted diyas.
You can see one broken diya on the far right. The survivor who painted it was really enjoying the opportunity to learn and think creatively during the workshop. When her diya broke, she burst into tears and couldn't stop apologizing. Both Seema and Catherine comforted her and said she could paint another diya.
The painting workshop was a huge success. The superintendent of the shelter home asked us to host more sessions and workshops with the girls. They invited us to come three times a week!
