Social Workers Visit Kirti

Kirti was rescued in a raid in January from Allahabad’s red-light area. She was sent to a shelter home in Agra where she stayed for three months. Even though medical tests confirmed that she was a minor, her mother, accused of selling Kirti into prostitution, was granted custody after producing a false document.

Kirti was not at home when our social workers visited her after her release. Her family stated that she was at a relative’s house but refused to give the address. The police followed up on the case and questioned her family about her whereabouts.

This week, the police were informed by Kirti’s family that she will be at home today. Our social workers are meeting her to get a statement about how she was trafficked and to ensure her safety.
